As many of you already know, I have stepped back from my medical practice at the Associate Medical Clinic. This is something I’ve been looking to do for two years now, but I wanted to do it in such a way so as not to orphan my patients. To that end, I’ve succeeded, and I’d like to welcome Dr. Dominic Arnold from the UK. He is an experienced family doctor, and will be bringing his wife and two daughters, and is excited to experience many of the outdoor activities we all enjoy in the Kootenays.

It has been my great honour and pleasure caring for you all for these past 24 years. I will likely continue to work in some capacity, such as locum work and OR assists, but I was feeling the need for some change as I get older, and I feel that turning the practice over to him is the best path forward. Most everything else will be just the same at the Associate Medical Clinic – our exuberant front staff, Drs.Smith and Cadwallader, Jenny Rossi, RN and the lab and social work services. I am not leaving the area, and you will likely see me from time to time, filling in for one of the other doctors, or just around town.

I am really excited to join the great team at Associate Medical Clinic, moving here in summer of 2026. I trained in the UK, studying first at Durham, and then medical school at Swansea University, and have worked in Northern England since 2021 as a Family Physician after completing my residency.

Outside of medicine, I’m often found trail running, gravel biking, canoeing or camping – essentially most things in the great outdoors – as well as spending time with my 2 young daughters whilst doing these activities.

I emigrated from the U.S. in the Spring of 2026 and am so excited and grateful to be in Rossland. I was raised on the Big Island of Hawaii, went to college at Stanford University and medical school at the University of California, San Francisco. I then completed a 3 year Family Medicine residency in Tacoma, WA and also did a Faculty Development Fellowship at the University of WA in Seattle. My passion for the last 25 years of practice has been reproductive health and advocacy, teaching and patient- centered care.

I am the proud mama of 3 great kids and two rascally dogs. I love all types of skiing, cycling and hiking. Waterskiing and SCUBA diving too! Basically if it is outdoors- I am in! Love to travel with recent adventures to Croatia, Thailand, Chile and Greece. I look forward to exploring the amazing Kootenays and integrating into the community here. Cheers!

Dr. Smith joined the Associate Medical Clinic in 2015 after Selkirk Family Medicine closed in Trail.  He came to Rossland back in 2001 for an elective during his family medicine residency, and fell in love with the area.  He returned that summer as a locum and never left.  He was born in the UK, and moved to Calgary when he was 7 years old.  He attended University of Calgary for his Bachelor’s degree, University of Alberta in Edmonton for his medical school training, and Chilliwack, BC for his family medicine residency training.

He remains committed to providing full spectrum family medicine care from cradle to grave, which includes obstetrical care at KBRH and long term care at Columbia View Lodge. He has been working with the UBC Residency program in Trail since its inception in 2016.  He lives in Rossland, with his wife and two sons.  When not at the clinic, you might find Dr. Smith out on the trails, mountain biking or gravel biking, in the summer, or up at Red Mountain during the winter, hopefully skiing powder, or volunteering with the Red Mountain Racers ski racing team.

Jenny is a registered nurse and has been with the Associate Medical Clinic since 2022.  She moved from Ontario to the Kootenays in 2012 and is grateful to call Rossland her home. Jenny enjoys all outdoor sports including mountain biking, skiing, hiking, soccer and spends a lot of time at the skate park with her two boys!

I grew up in rural New Brunswick and attended medical school at Dalhousie University in beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Drawn to the west, I moved to BC to train in family medicine. I have had the privilege of working across the country including in Ontario, PEI and BC, as both a family and emergency room doc. Most recently lived in Prince George before moving to Rossland with my wife, 3 kids, 2 great dogs and our irritable hedgehog. I enjoy bikes of all kinds, coaching and playing hockey, skiing and spending time with my family.

Joanne is a physiotherapist with Interior Health’s Primary Care Network. With 27 years of experience as a physiotherapist and a foundation in dance, Joanne blends clinical expertise with a dancer’s eye for movement and maladaptation. Guided by a philosophy in prevention over reaction, Joanne’s goal is to empower clients to build strength and resilience, before or after injury occurs, so that you can get back to living your best life.
